The properties of a hypocrite in the Quran

“Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not.” (Surah Baqarah: 12)

A general look through the verses of the Quran shows that dissension, the negative effects of the soul, psychology, mannerisms and deeds creates a hypocrite and leads them towards divine punishment in this world and the day of judgement. Quran describes them as being:

– Deprived of true awareness. “Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not.” (Surah Baqarah: 12)

– Devoid of understanding and thinking. “They were satisfied to be with those who stay behind, and their hearts were sealed over, so they do not understand.” (Surah Tawbah: 98)

– They are lost and in bewilderment. “[But] Allah mocks them and prolongs them in their transgression [while] they wander blindly.” (Surah Baqarah: 15)

– As a result of the web of lies they spin, they remain constantly within the bounds of disbelief and remain far from guidance. “In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie.” (Surah Baqarah: 10)

– As a result of the wrong beliefs in their hearts, they are full of fear, anxiety and they will receive a painful divine punishment. “Or [it is] like a rainstorm from the sky within which is darkness, thunder and lightning. They put their fingers in their ears against the thunderclaps in dread of death.” (Surah Baqarah: 19)
